CHS Football Comes Up Short In Opener At Ridgefield

In a postponed game, Cheshire High School football dropped their opener 17-14 this afternoon at Ridgefield. CHS trailed 17-7 at halftime. Scoring summary:
First Quarter
40-yard touchdown from CHS junior Jack Cunningham (9:43) 0-7, CHS
Point after touchdown from sophomore Matt D'Andrea was good
Three-yard score by Ridgefield senior Will Bonaparte (1:01) 7-7, tie
PAT by freshman Petros Papadopoulos was good
Second Quarter
80-yard TD from Bonaparte (6:42) 14-7, Ridgefield
PAT by Papadopoulos was good
30-yard field goal from Papadopoulos was good (three seconds) 17-7, Ridgefield
Fourth Quarter
17-yard touchdown from CHS junior quarterback Josh MacNiven to senior Mark Dietrich (6:38) 17-14, Ridgefield
PAT from D'Andrea was good
Senior Anthony Carbone blocked a punt for Cheshire. The first meeting between these schools was part of a two-year partnership between the Southern Connecticut Conference and Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference. FCIAC was victorious 9-8.
