Cheshire American Legion Baseball Shuts Out Oakville, Qualifies For States

Cheshire American Legion baseball (28-3) beat Oakville 9-0 in yesterday's Sectionals at Cheshire High School. Ryan Manning (three hits, seven strikeouts, four walks) pitched for the second straight day, going six innings. Parker Barnell (two hits, strikeout, walk) finished the contest.
Michael Purcell had a double, two-run home run, and a single to end with two RBIs and runs scored. Kyle Hodgdon added three hits and a scored a run. Dan Schock recorded two hits, RBIs, and runs scored. Kevin Mirando (run scored) had two hits. Jay Schaff made an acrobatic catch and threw to first base to complete a double play and end the game.
Cheshire carries a three-game win streak into Saturday's four-team double-elimination tournament at Cubeta Stadium in Stamford. They meet Orange at 12 p.m. Branford and Waterbury play at 3:30 p.m.
