Recent Cheshire High School graduates Kayleigh Torok and Ryan Hannon will present a senior vocal recital at the First Congregational Church of Cheshire on Saturday, July 20 at 1 p.m. They will be joined by Julia Torok. The program will include Italian and English art songs, Gilbert & Sullivan, and popular songs of Broadway. All three singers have received extensive musical awards, including All-State Honors for multiple years, and have performed leading roles in Cheshire productions and sang with select choruses at CHS. Scholastically, all have achieved either distinguished or high honors throughout their school careers.
Torok was chosen for Regional and All-State Chorus for all four high school years, and was selected as a soloist at this year's Regional Festival. Twice, she earned the highest soprano score at Regional Festival. She played Dorothy in both "The Wizard of Oz" in a Cheshire Youth Production and in "The Wiz" at Cheshire High School. She also appeared as Puck in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" for which she won a Connecticut Halo Award as Best Featured Actress. Other high school activities include Director and Co-Writer of the One Acts Theater Competition and Vice-President of the German Club. Academic Honors include AP Scholar with honors and honor society in math, science and English. She will attend the University of Maryland.
Hannon was selected for Regional and All-State Chorus for the last three years, and received the Judge's Choice Award at the Berklee College Jazz competition in Boston. On stage at Cheshire High, he appeared as Oberon in "A Midsummer Night's Dream," as bass in the Barbershop Quartet in "The Music Man," and most recently as the Scarecrow in "The Wiz." Cheshire High School activities and awards include President of Student Senate, President of National Honor Society, Superintendent's Award and honors in music, science, math, social studies and literature. He will attend Northeastern University this fall.
Julia Torok gained Regional and All-State Choral honors this year, as well as directing the Freshman One Acts. She also achieved distinguished scholastic honors. At Dodd Middle School, she portrayed Princess Jasmine in "Alladin" and Mrs. Potts in "Beauty and the Beast." She will be joining her sister in two duets.
