Lady Rams Break Records At State Open, Make New Englands

Cheshire High School outdoor track and field competed in Monday's State Open at Willowbrook Park in New Britain. The 4x100-meter team of sophomore Jamiya Richardson, junior Kristin Cabrera, freshman Janaia Skibitcky, and sophomore Alexandra Pelletier lowered their school record (49.54) in a fourth place finish. Junior Selina Sampieri was sixth in pole vault (10 feet, six inches) and eclipsed her own record in the triple jump (17th; 34, two).
Seniors Brittney Gunneson (javelin; 109, nine) and Ariel Greene (discus; 107, three) ended their high school careers on Monday. Skibitcky (triple jump, 19th; 33, two) and Pelletier (400-meters, 11th, 58.7) cracked the top 20.
Senior Nick Jakowenko (discus, 16th; 125, eight) and junior Liam Nicoll (400-meters, 22nd, 52.12) competed for the boys' team.
The 4x100-meter team and Sampieri will represent the Lady Rams in Saturday's New Championship at the same site.

Tuesday's golf schedule:
CHS visits Orange Hills Country Club for the State Open. Play starts at 9:30 a.m.
Cheshire plays in the Division I Open at Fairview Farms in Harwinton. They are scheduled to tee off in the 10 a.m. slot.
