Cheshire Academy (10-3) defeated host Millbrook Prep School (N.Y.), the two-time defending champion, 5-2 in the Western New England Prep School Girls Softball Association final.
Yesterday, the track and field program competed in the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council Division III Championship. Boys claimed fifth place (54 points). Jeff Biestek (discus, 138 feet, six inches; shot put, 47, 11.5), Cory Jasudowich (javelin; 176, 10), and Taewoo Kim (110-meter hurdles, 15.97) won gold medalists. Jasudowich (shot put; 47, 11.5) and Kim (300-meter hurdles, 42.02) added another top five. Leaon Gordon joined Biestek, Jasudowich, and Kim for the 4x100-meter relay (third, 45.07).
The girls scored eight points for 16th place. Danielle Putnam finished runner-up in pole vault, clearing seven feet.
Canterbury won the girls' title (80), while Roxbury Latin School (137) was victorious on the boys' side. Cheshire's Carly Andersen contributed to Canterbury's 4x100-meter squad (Stephanie Hester, Margaux Janowicz, Alisa Gopal) that earned the bronze medal. They finished in 54.41.
