An equipment failure resulted in about 2,100 residents losing power for close to 90 minutes last night.
According to Connecticut Light & Power spokesman Mitch Gross, at around 5:45 p.m. on May 2, a recloser malfunctioned and cut power to 4,300 customers. However, the system was able to reroute power to half the customers in 60 seconds, but 2,100 remained without power. Gross said the damaged equipment, which acts like a circuit breaker, affected customers in the Country Club Road area of Cheshire.
Power was restored shortly after 7 p.m. after CL&P workers replaced the damaged piece of equipment.
