A suspicious package discovered on the Linear Trail on Friday afternoon turned out to be nothing more than a piece of cement.
At around 1 p.m. on April 26, police were alerted to the presense of a suspicious looking package on the Trail between Higgins Road and Cornwall Avenue. Local and state police responded, and the area was closed down for more than two hours. After an investigation, it was revealed that the package in question was a five-inch by 12-inch piece of cement that had been covered in duct tape.
“Out of an abundance of caution, we called in the state police,” Cheshire Police Lt. James Fasano said. “People use the trail everyday and saw something that looked out of place. It was nothing dangerous, but we would rather people call us. If you see something, say something.”
The area was re-opened to the public after it was determined to be safe by police.
