Girls' LAX Wins SCC Final Rematch, Softball Scores Early And Often At Wilbur Cross

After defeating Guilford 18-9 in last year's Southern Connecticut Conference final, Cheshire High School girls' lacrosse (2-1) returned to beat their host rival (1-2) 15-8 on Monday. CHS took a 9-4 lead into halftime. Juniors Maddy Levy and Emma Farrel (assist) both scored four goals. It was a career-best total for Levy.
Senior Kathleen Kalbian had a hat trick and two assists, while senior Alison Hoynes added two goals and assists each. Seniors Nicole Stauffer and Christy Myjak also chipped in two assists, each scoring once. Junior Michelle Federico tallied an assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Alexa Carbone garnered six saves.
Cheshire travels to Branford on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Softball (3-1)
Cheshire exploded offensively during a 19-0 victory at Wilbur Cross (0-4). Sophomore Casey Harding tripled twice among her three hits and added three RBIs. Sophomore Alexa DiLeo scored three times and produced three hits like Harding. DiLeo also contributed an RBI. Junior Bryanna McIntosh (four runs scored, three RBIs) and senior Lauren Fountain (RBI, run scored) each posted two hits.
In her first varsity start, sophomore Mackenzie Juodaitis gave up one hit and fired 11 strikeouts.
The Lady Rams visit Sheehan (3-0) for Wednesday's Housatonic Division opener at 3:45 p.m.
Girls' Golf (3-0)
By sweeping Canton (230) and Woodstock Academy (231) in the home opener, Cheshire (191) helped Head Coach John Williams cracked the 100-win plateau (101). For the first time in her career, senior Emily Larkin earned medalist (43). Classmates Andra Frappier shot 44. Classmates Maggie Kulpa (50), Megan Robles (54), and Kelsey Peluso (55) all cracked 50.
Cheshire hosts Daniel Hand on Thursday at 3 p.m.
Girls' Tennis (3-0)
CHS swept host East Haven 7-0. Seniors Meredith Bryden and Lindsey Garibaldi (6-3, 6-3), juniors Christy and Katie Freitag (6-0, 6-2), and freshmen Durga Rathi and Amanda Murray (6-0, 6-2) controlled doubles. Singles victories came from senior Anna Toscano (6-1, 6-4), junior Nadja Pejovic (6-0, 7-5), sophomore Sara Bruce (6-0, 6-0), and senior Jamie Andrews (6-2, 6-1).
The Lady Rams visit Sheehan on Wednesday at 3:45 p.m.
Boys' Volleyball (2-0)
In the home opener, Cheshire rallied to beat Shelton (0-1) 3-1 to extend their consecutive win streak to 47. Game scores were 19-25, 25-16, 25-12, 25-19. Senior Evan Colechia posted a personal-best 16 kills and six aces. He added eight digs. Cheshire also received career-high numbers from classmates Scott Romano (14 digs) and Luke Yasuda (11 kills, seven blocks).
CHS hosts defending Class M runner-up Oxford (3-0) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. CPTV Sports will televise the match.
Boys' Tennis (0-3)
The Rams scored for the first time this season, but still fell 4-3 against Fairfield Prep. Junior Jeremy Reichentahl (1-6, 6-1, 6-2) and senior Casey Barry (6-3, 7-6) won in singles. Barry's tiebreaker score was 7-3. At three doubles, senior Andrew Carroll and sophomore Ricky Valentin came away victorious 6-2, 7-6 (7-5).
Cheshire looks for their first win on Thursday, hosting Glastonbury at 4 p.m.
