Girls' Lacrosse Comes Up Short At Rival Greenwich

In a rematch of the 2012 Class L final, Cheshire High School girls' lacrosse (1-1) lost 18-10 at two-time defending champion Greenwich (2-0). Greenwich led 6-5 at halftime and later used seven straight goals to take a 15-7 lead. Senior Kathleen Kalbian and Emma Farrel had hat tricks in the loss. Cheshire also received goals from seniors Christy Myjak, Nicole Stauffer (assist), along with juniors Maddy Levy and Michelle Federico. Sophomore goalkeeper Alexa Carbone had four saves.
Greenwich senior Emily Johnson put in a game-high seven goals.
CHS visits Guilford (0-1) on Monday at 7 p.m.
Girls' Tennis (2-0)
Cheshire pulled out a 4-3 victory over Branford in their home opener. Seniors Anna Toscano (7-6 (7-5), 6-0) and Jamie Andrews (6-0, 6-1), along with sophomore Sara Bruce (6-3, 6-0), added victories in singles. At number three doubles, freshmen Durga Rathi and Amanda Murray won 6-1, 6-2.

Saturday's varsity schedule:
Boys' Lacrosse (0-1)
The Rams visit Fairfield University to play Class L/Southern Connecticut Conference Champion, Fairfield Prep (0-1), at 10 a.m.
Softball (2-0)
Cheshire hosts Mercy (1-1) in Saturday's First Royal Blue Game at 11 a.m. The girls will wear special uniforms to support their fight against colon cancer. A bake sale and other donations will go to the American Cancer Society.
Baseball (0-2)
CHS looks for their first win against host Notre Dame-West Haven (2-0) at Quigley Stadium. Start time is 1 p.m.
Boys' Tennis (0-2)
For the second match in a row, Cheshire lost 7-0 at Daniel Hand. They host Fairfield Prep on Monday at 4 p.m.
