In a thrilling opener on Thursday, Cheshire High School boys' volleyball outlasted host Lewis Mills 3-2 (21-25, 25-20, 25-11, 22-25, 16-14) to extend their school record win streak to 46. Cheshire won seven of the final eight points to clinch the victory. Senior Evan Colechia posted 15 kills and 11 digs (career-best). Eleven kills were the most kills in the career of senior Ben Gallo (five blocks) and junior Anthony Carbone.
Monday's home opener against Shelton starts at 6 p.m.
Cheshire won 12-2 at Career Magnet. Senior Nicole D'Amato pitched five innings, giving up a hit with 10 strikeouts. Sophomore Mackenzie Juodaitis entered for the first time in relief. She had two hits and strikeouts each and walked a batter.
Sophomore Casey Harding (three hits) supplied three hits and an RBI. Junior Bryanna McIntosh added two hits, scoring twice. Sophomore Sara Como has had two hits in each of her first two games.
Cheshire hosts Mercy in Saturday's First Royal Blue Game at 11 a.m. The girls will wear special uniforms. A bake sale and other donations will go to the American Cancer Society, specifically battling colon cancer.
Cheshire won their opener 224-228 against host Mercy at Lyman Orchards Golf Club. Senior Andra Frappier was medalist at 47. Classmates Emily Larkin (57) and Megan Robles (58), along with Molly Pritchard (62) and Maggie Kulpa (63), finished a stroke from each other.
The Lady Rams host Canton and Woodstock Academy on Monday at 3 p.m.
Cheshire lost 9-1 against Jonathan Law (2-0). Law scored their runs in the fourth and fifth innings after Cheshire took a 1-0 advantage in the second inning. With the bases loaded, sophomore Matt Hickey drew a walk to bring home junior Kyle Waldron (two hits). Senior Kyle Hodgdon went 3-3, all singles.
Cheshire's pitching staff of Junior Ethan Lonardelli, senior PJ Watson, and sophomore Ryan Pierpont gave up a total of 17 hits against Law.
The Rams face host Notre Dame-West Haven (2-0) on Saturday at Quigley Stadium.

Cheshire visits two-time defending Class L Champion Greenwich (1-0) at 4 p.m. Greenwich beat Cheshire 9-8 in last year's L final. CHS has never beaten the Cardinals.

The Lady Rams host Branford (1-0) in their home opener at 4 p.m.

Cheshire visits Daniel Hand (1-0) at 4 p.m.
