Cheshire High School defeated Sacred Heart Academy 17-3 in Wednesday's opener at Alumni Field. They led 12-1 at halftime. Junior Emma Farrel (five) and senior Nicole Stauffer (three) totaled eight goals, each adding an assist. CHS collected two goals each from seniors Alison Hoynes (four assists) and Christy Myjak (assist), along with junior Danielle Chambrelli. Juniors Olivia Larson and Maddy Levy joined senior Kathleen Kalbian (two assists) with a goal. Sophomore Alexa Carbone (nine saves) made her first start in net.
The Lady Rams visit Greenwich on Friday at 4 p.m. Greenwich beat Cheshire 9-8 in the 2012 Class L final.

It took nine innings for Cheshire to defeat West Haven 2-1, winning the debut of Head Coach Kas Hoag. With two outs in the ninth inning, junior Bryanna McIntosh doubled in sophomore Sara Como (two singles) with the game-winning run. Senior Nicole D'Amato (eight hits, three walks) struck out 13 in the victory.
Junior Alexa DiLeo led off the second inning with a home run to put Cheshire up 1-0. West Haven tied the game in the sixth inning.
On Thursday, Cheshire travels to Career Magnet at 3:45 p.m.
In the opener, Cheshire beat host Joseph Foran 164-202 at Grassy Hill Country Club. At 40, junior Jake Ecke and sophomore Chris Simione were medalists. Junior Tom Arisco (41), along with seniors Eric Dietrich (43) and Mike Stanton (46), also contributed.
Tuesday's home opener with Amity starts at 2:30 p.m.
Cheshire opened the season with a 6-1 road win over host Sacred Heart Academy at Hamden Middle School. Singles victories came from junior Nadja Pejovic (5-7, 6-0, 6-0), sophomore Sara Bruce (6-3, 6-2), and senior Jamie Andrews (6-2, 6-1). Seniors Meredith Bryden and Lindsey Garibaldi (6-0, 6-1), juniors Katie and Christy Freitag (6-0, 6-2), and freshmen Amanda Murray and Durga Rathi (6-0, 6-1) lost a combined four games in sweeping doubles.
The Lady Rams face Branford in Friday's home opener at 4 p.m.
Southington defeated visiting CHS 11-7 for the first time in eight years, taking an 8-1 lead by halftime. Junior goalkeeper Jared Lawson had 11 saves in the opener. Senior Chris Trasacco and junior Matt Rougeot each scored twice. Rougeot had yet to tally a varsity point in his first two seasons. Cheshire also received goals from senior Tom Dupont, junior Matt Samuelson, and sophomore Matt Blois.
Cheshire travels to Fairfield University on Saturday to play host Fairfield Prep at 10 a.m. The Jesuits are the reigning Class L and Southern Connecticut Conference Champion.
Xavier scored six times during the third inning of a 10-6 opening victory in Cheshire. Junior Dan Schock, who started the game on the mound, joined senior Kyle Hodgdon with two hits apiece in the loss. Sophomore Cooper Mrowka (hit, three walks) played for the first time after sitting out last year.
Cheshire's Michael Purcell had three hits for Xavier.

Boys' Track and Field
Cheshire fell 100.5-49.5 in the debut of Head Coach Allen Dvarskas. Junior Liam Nicoll claimed the 100- (11.1), 200- (23.4), and 400-meters (52.5). Junior Chibueze Njoku was another individual winner in discus, throwing 122 feet and 0.5 inches. Sophomore Mark Fusco, senior Sagar Nakrani, juniors Jonathan Hauser and Trey Phillips captured the 4x800-meter relay (8:47.2).
The Rams host Sheehan and Wilbur Cross on Tuesday at 3:45 p.m.
Cheshire dropped the head coaching debut of Chris Pappas 7-0 against Amity. CHS visits Daniel Hand on Friday at 4 p.m.
