Sugrue, William P.

William P. Sugrue, 93, of Orlando, Florida, formerly of New Haven, died on Wednesday, March 13, 2013. He was the beloved husband of the late Madeline Guida Sugrue. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Barone (George) of Plantsville (formerly of Cheshire), Karen Lubiniecki Joos of Florida, Lynne Martens of New Haven. Grandfather of Juliette Allen (Jon), Carol Barone, Jolima Grieco of Cheshire, Hollis Martens, Brian Lubiniecki, and Lauren Perry, nine great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by his siblings, Herbert, Charles, Helen Corenki and Anne Blanke.

Born in New Haven to the late Cornelius and Josephine Ryan Sugrue, he graduated from Hillhouse High School and attended Collegiate Preparatory School. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army as a 1st Lieutenant. Upon returning from the war, he attended New Haven College. He worked for Soundscriber Corp. and later for the U.S. Postal Service. After retiring from the Postal Service, he worked at the Yale University Law Library. William was a member of the American Legion Post 175.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Francis Church in New Haven followed by a burial with Military Honors in All Saints Cemetery. Contributions in William’s memory may be sent to St. Francis School, 423 Ferry St., New Haven, CT 06513. To send a condolence, please see obituary at
