Are you interested in helping bring a little joy into the life of an elderly individual? If so, there might be a program perfect for you. The Friendly Visitor Program service, sponsored by the Human Services Committee, will match volunteers with seniors for weekly home visits. The objective of the visits is to demonstrate sincere and cheerful interest in the person visited, and to provide an opportunity for conversation with a new friend.
If you have an hour a week to bring friendship and conversation to someone who may be lonely or shut –in, Human Services would like to hear from you.
If you or someone you know is elderly or disabled and would enjoy having a new friend, contact Human Services as well.
The Cheshire Human Services Committee – Friendly Visitor Volunteer Training & information session will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 1 p.m., at the Cheshire Senior Center, 240 Maple Ave. Training will be provided by Barbara Barlock, member of the Human Services Committee and retired director of Interfaith Volunteer Care Givers of Greater New Haven.
If you’d like to Volunteer and attend the training, contact Martha Picket at (203) 272-9420 or e-mail her at mfpickett@cox.net
