Cheshire High School boys swam to fifth place (536 points) in Wednesday's Southern Connecticut Conference final at Southern Connecticut State University. Freshman Kyle Shadeck was also fifth through the 200-yard individual medley (2:07.32) and 100-yard butterfly (56.2). He also joined Pat Morley for the 200-yard medley (junior Brian Johnson, Morley, freshman Michael Goodrich; 1:47.5) and 400-yard freestyle (junior Alex Bauer, freshman Karl Bishop; 3:33.65).
Goodrich added fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.92), finishing sixth for the 50-yard freestyle (23.46). Bishop was fifth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:02.58) and teamed with classmates Alex Cheruk, Matt Pinciaro, and Goodrich on the 200-yard freestyle relay squad (ninth, 1:38.05). Morley also nabbed 10th in breaststroke (1:07.13).
Fairfield Prep captured their ninth straight championship (1,510.5 points). Amity, led by senior Dylan Swanepoel (Most Outstanding Swimmer, secured second (815).
Cheshire visits Cornerstone Aquatics Center of West Hartford for the Class L Trials on March 9.
