CHS Ice Hockey And Skiing Win Big, Girls' B-Ball Ends Season At Darien

Cheshire High School ice hockey (5-15) sent their seven seniors out victorious on Tuesday, winning 9-2 against host Daniel Hand (10-6-2) at Northford Ice Pavilion. The Rams supported senior goalkeeper Jack Naramore (21 saves) by taking a 6-0 lead into the second period. Seniors Tyler Lima (two goals) and Sean Richard (personal-best three assists) led the Rams to a season-best total for goals. Senior Jake Nesdale (assist) and junior Jared Lawson had their first goals of career and season, respectively.
Senior Nick Vaill (assist), juniors Alex Bausch, Jonathan Hauser (assist), Luke Vendetto, and sophomore Frank Ilnicki supplied goals. Cheshire also received two assists from sophomores Matt Jordan and Ben Klanica. Junior Greg Zovas contributed an assist and senior Scott Romano made a save after substituting for Naramore.
Tom Dupont (captain), Lima (assistant captain), Romano (assistant captain), Naramore, Nesdale, Richard, and Vaill comprise the senior class leaving the program.
Girls' Basketball (22nd seed; 9-12)
Cheshire concluded their season with a 56-50 loss in the Class LL First Round at Darien (11th; 16-6). Darien led 28-17 at halftime. The closest CHS came after that was 49-46 in the fourth quarter. Junior Missy Bailey (personal-best eight rebounds) had 18 points, 12 in the fourth quarter. Senior Lauren Como chipped in 11. Junior Bryanna McIntosh added eight points. Senior Emma Gorham and sophomore Jill Howard supplied four points. Sophomore Sara Como sank a three-pointer before getting injured in the first half. Senior Molly Jalbert netted a basket.
Darien senior Meg Marren posted a game-high 25 points and four blocks.
The Lady Rams are graduating Lauren Como (captain), Gorham (captain), Jalbert (captain), and Ariel Greene.
Skiing (Boys, 12-4; Girls, 7-5)
The Lady Rams beat Glastonbury (312.24) and Southington (315.52) at Mount Southington. In a tight finish, Carlette (45.84) took second behind Southington’s Casey Abraham. Sophomore Elizabeth Cunningham (fourth, 48.14), freshman Meghan Diamond (15th, 49.62), along with sophomores Jennifer Brown (29th, 53.19), Katherine DePalma (34th, 53.98), and Meaghan Carroll (38th, 54.43) scored behind Carlette.
The boys' team (278.88) defeated Branford (345.82), Southington (306.03), and Fairfield Prep (288.24), losing to Glastonbury (273.27). Seniors Andrew Brown (seventh, 44.67) and Mike Harris (12th, 45.15) were top 15 finishers. Junior Ryan Bogrette (46.42) and senior Matt Bossy (46.43) finished 22nd and 23rd, respectively. Sophomore Joe Urbano (31st, 47.3) and freshman Alec Pierce (46th, 48.91) rounded out the scorers.
The regular season finale against Amity, Barlow, Danbury, Guilford, Litchfield, and Weston starts at 4:45 p.m

The Southern Connecticut Conference final starts 6 p.m. at Southern Connecticut State University.
