Cheshire High School wrestlers, Dan Massucci (16th seed; 40-10 record) and junior Jake Cervero (17th; 31-10), finished the season on Saturday in the State Open at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven. At 138 pounds, Massucci beat Goodwin Tech sophomore Joseph Adam (5-1) and lost against Glastonbury senior Jacob Jones (3-1). Cervero was pinned by Farmington senior Garrett Hastings at 132.
Cheshire finished in a tie for 63rd place (eight points). Massucci graduates with 98 wins.
Boys' Basketball (eighth seed; 10-11)
At Branford, the Rams lost 71-52 against Hillhouse (top; 20-1). Cheshire had a 23-19 lead at the end of the first quarter, trailing by only four points (32-28) at halftime. Sophomore Andrew Yamin (15), junior Collin Jordan (14), and senior Erik Pettit (11) were top point-scorers.

Ice Hockey (4-14)
CHS fell 7-1 against Notre Dame-West Haven (15-4). The Green Knights led 6-0 through two periods. Junior Chris Stevens put Cheshire on the scoreboard, scoring with 2:52 gone by in the final period. Senior Jack Naramore (13 saves) followed classmate Scott Romano (24) in goal.
ND-WH had 44 shots to Cheshire's 16. Junior Bill Vizzo had three goals and assists apiece. Senior Paul Sliwinski made 15 saves. Read about Romano receiving the Greg Schena/Mark Whitlock Award in Thursday's issue of The Cheshire Herald!
