Cheshire High School boys' basketball (9-9; 6-2 in Housatonic Division) came up short 64-62 against Career Magnet (11-7) on Friday. They split the series. Cheshire had a 28-27 halftime edge on their home floor. Seniors Erik Pettit (15 points), Eric (14) and Kevin (nine) Dietrich, and Tim Covel (three) were recognized on Senior Night. Junior Collin Jordan supplied 14 points. Classmate Tyler Post had seven.
Whitney Lorello, Marisa Pisani, Megan Robles, and Paige Slack were also announced as senior cheerleaders. Tuesday's final home game against West Haven (6-11) starts at 7 p.m. West Haven won the first meeting 66-64 on Dec. 14 at home.

Boys' Swim And Dive (8-5)
At Wesleyan University, Cheshire took a 99-85 loss to host Xavier (8-4). Freshman Karl Bishop swept the 200- (1:56.71) and 500-yard (5:14.65) freestyles. He also teamed with junior Alex Bauer, classmate Kyle Shadeck, and junior Pat Morley to add another victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:44.63).
CHS ends the dual-meet season next Thursday against host Branford at 4 p.m. The meet will be held at Francis Walsh Intermediate School.
The Rams sit in 15th place (33 points) in the Class LL Championship at Trumbull. Following first-round byes, seniors Dan Massucci (138 pounds, fourth seed) and Billy Janes (182, fifth), and junior Jake Cervero (132, third) fired pins to advance within the championship bracket. Massucci and Cervero beat seniors from Manchester, Ryan Potterton (13th) and Nicholas Lappen (14th), respectively. Janes defeated junior Steven Green (12th) of Trumbull.
Senior Josh Hunihan (160, 12th; two pins) is still competing in consolation after going 2-1. Hunihan was victorious against senior Apolon Konstendindis (Bridgeport Central; 21st) and sophomore Ryan Restivo (Brien McMahon; 13th). Classmate Steve Bergeron (1-2) pinned junior Michael Deramo (Bridgeport Central; 15th) at 145 before exiting the tournament.
Simsbury currently leads with 73 points. Action picks up this morning at 10 a.m.

Cheshire travels to New Haven's Floyd Little Athletic Center for the Class LL Championship at 10 a.m.
Ice Hockey (4-11)
The Rams host North Haven (3-9-2) on Saturday at Wesleyan. Senior Night for captain Tom Dupont, assistant captains Tyler Lima and Scott Romano, Jack Naramore, Jake Nesdale, Sean Richard, and Nick Vaill will be held prior to the 7 p.m. start.
