CHS Ice Hockey Avenges OT Loss In Watertown

Cheshire High School ice hockey (4-11) defeated host Watertown-Pomperaug 4-3 (overtime) on Thursday at Taft School. Junior Luke Vendetto put away his second goal with 24 seconds remaining in extra time. Watertown-Pomperaug won the first meeting, also in overtime (2-1) on Jan. 9.
Sophomores Ben Klanica and Frank Ilnicki also scored. Senior Tom Dupont, juniors Alex Bausch and Greg Zovas, along with sophomores Matt Jordan and Tommy Sokoloff, had assists. Jordan and Sokoloff hadn't assisted before. Senior goalkeeper Scott Romano made 37 shots. Each team fired 40 shots.
CHS hosts North Haven (3-9-2) on Saturday at Wesleyan University. Start is 7 p.m. Tom Dupont (captain), Tyler Lima (assistant captain), Scott Romano (assistant captain), Jack Naramore, Jake Nesdale, Sean Richard, and Nick Vaill will be recognized on Senior Night.
Girls' Basketball (9-11; Housatonic Division Champion at 5-3)
The Lady Rams lost the regular season finale 48-41 at Daniel Hand (13-7). On Senior Night, the Tigers scored 19 of the 28 points in the fourth quarter to rally for the home win. The teams went 1-1 this season. Senior Emma Gorham (eight rebounds) scored seven points, while juniors Lily Dolyak (three steals) and Bryanna McIntosh had six. Senior Lauren Como and her sophomore sister Sara, along with junior Missy Bailey, added five points.
CHS didn't qualify for the Southern Connecticut Conference Tournament, but will compete in Class LL.

Wrestling
CHS visits Trumbull for Class LL Championship at 4:30 p.m. Saturday's start time is 9 a.m.
Boys' Basketball (9-8; 6-2 in Housatonic Division)
Cheshire hosts Career Magnet (10-7). CHS won the Dec. 12 opener 79-55 in New Haven. Captains Tim Covel, Eric Dietrich, and Erik Pettit, along with Kevin Dietrich, are the honorees on Senior Night.
Boys' Swim And Dive (8-4)
The Rams travel to Wesleyan University to face host Xavier. CHS has won four straight meets.
