Cheshire High School girls' basketball (9-9; 5-2 in Housatonic Division) won 42-37 on Monday at Sheehan (8-8; 3-4), avenging a 57-47 home loss from Jan. 11. CHS secured at least a share of the Housatonic crown for the third year in a row. The Lady Rams led 22-12 at halftime and converted eight of nine foul shots during the fourth quarter to hold off the Titans. Senior Lauren Como (11), junior Missy Bailey (eight), and sophomore Sara Como (seven) were top point scorers. Junior BryAnna McIntosh and sophomore Jill Howard added six. Senior Emma Gorham and Junior Lily Dolyak scored two.
Lauren Como, Gorham, fellow captain Molly Jalbert, and Ariel Greene will be honored before tonight's Senior Night against Amity (11-6; 4-3) at 7 p.m. Amity came from behind to win 48-40 on Jan. 18. With a victory on Tuesday, Cheshire would clinch the division title outright.
The final regular season home game is Cheshire's National Coaches vs. Cancer game. The girls will wear pink and accept donations for the American Cancer Society.
Boys' Basketball (8-7; 5-2)
Wilbur Cross scored 20 of the final 29 points of a 68-59 road win over the Rams. Cheshire rallied from a 28-26 halftime deficit, but Cross still swept the season series. Senior Eric Dietrich and junior Collin Jordan netted 16 points. Sophomore Andrew Yamin made three three-pointers among his 11 points. Dietrich, senior Erik Pettit (eight points), and junior Tom Arisco (six points) each made a pair of three-pointers. Junior Tyler Post had two points.
Juniors Chan Williams Bey Jr. and Joshua Fleming supplied 21 and 18 points, respectively, for Wilbur Cross.
Wednesday is the boys' National Coaches vs. Cancer game. Cheshire hosts Wilby (13-2) at 7 p.m.
