Harris Brothers' Balkan Band Bringing Their Unique Sound To St. Peter's Tonight

February 1, 2013 by Special To The ...

Hear the Harris Brothers’ Balkan Band (HBBB) perform music from Roma and folk traditions of Bosnia, Bulgaria, Greece, Macedonia, Serbia and Turkey in the wonderful acoustics of the St. Peter’s Church. The music expresses a wide range of haunting and playful melodies, driving and sometimes odd rhythms, and exotic scales and harmonies. With humor and stories from a lifetime of exploring distant cultures, the HBBB - Drew Harris, Tamberlaine Harris, and Helen Marx - present a delightful concert of music and culture.
The concert will be followed by a folkdance party with live music and walk-through dance instructions from the HBBB. For the novice, many dances are immediately accessible and none require partners. All are welcome! For those attending the Thursday night folkdance classes at St. Peters (7:00-8:30 through Feb. 8), this is a chance to show what you have learned with great live accompaniment.
Suggested donations are $10 per adult, $5 per child (16 and under) and $25 per family, but no one should let money stop them from participating.
All proceeds go towards the St. Peter’s Chorister Fund, so additional donations are welcomed.
St. Peter’s Church is located at 59 Main Street.
The HBBB will be performing from 7 to 10 p.m.
