Cheshire High School girls' basketball (8-8; 4-2 in Housatonic Division) was beaten by Mercy (15-1) 56-36 for the second time this season. Mercy took a 23-16 lead at intermission. Junior Bryanna McIntosh had a career-high five rebounds. Junior Missy Bailey and sophomore Jill Howard tied McIntosh with six points. Seniors Molly Jalbert (five points, four rebounds) and Emma Gorham (four points, five rebounds) combined with Howard for 12 rebounds. Senior Lauren Como and sophomore Kelly Glatt, along with Bailey, made three-pointers. Sophomore Sara Como and junior Lily Dolyak sank two and one foul shot, respectively.
The Lady Rams travel to defending Southern Connecticut Conference Champion Career Magnet (12-1) on Friday at 7 p.m. Career won 71-47 on Jan. 16 at CHS.
Boys' Basketball (8-5; 5-1)
At Xavier (9-5), Cheshire fell 65-47 to end a five-game win streak. With the score tied 28-28 at half, Xavier enjoyed a 16-4 run. Junior Collin Jordan netted 16 points and senior Eric Dietrich chipped in 12. Sophomore Andrew Yamin scored eight and junior Jonathan Rizzo had seven. Senior Tim Covel and junior Reid Duglenski added two points each. CHS and Xavier went 1-1 in the regular season.
The Rams visit Shelton (6-8; 2-4) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Cheshire won 77-63 on Jan. 15.
Skiing (boys, 6-3; girls, 2-5)
Boys (276.59) and girls (329.7) split against four teams at Mount Southington. They beat Daniel Hand (326.19; 343.18) and Pomperaug (296.54; 345.76). They lost against Ridgefield (274.9; 310.39) and Wilton (276.55; 304.65).
Senior Kelsie Carlette was the girls' victor (47.34) for the second straight race. Freshman Meghan Diamond (20th, 50.7), sophomore Jennifer Brown (23rd, 51.26), freshman Samantha Bellina (66th, 57.94), sophomore Katherine DePalma (71st, 59.19), and freshman Kelly Byrd (79th, 63.27) followed Carlette.
Andrew Brown took third (44.0) for the boys. Fellow seniors Matt Bossy (16th, 45.54), Alec Cunningham (21st, 45.98), and Mike Harris (26th, 46.3), along with sophomore Joe Urbano (38th, 47.3) and junior Ryan Bogrette (40th, 47.47), also added to the top six.
Cheshire hosts Berlin, Darien, Farmington, and Lauralton Hall next Thursday at 4:45 p.m.
Girls' Ice Hockey (8-7)
At East Haven Veterans Memorial Ice Rink, Amity/Cheshire/North Haven rose above the .500 mark with their 5-4 overtime win against host Guilford. They travel to Simsbury on Saturday at 8 p.m.
