Cheshire High School girls' indoor track and field finished third (68 points) in Wednesday's Southern Connecticut Conference East Sectional at Floyd Little Athletic Center. Junior Selina Sampieri claimed first for pole vault at 10 feet. The height eclipsed her CHS record. Senior Kathleen Kalbian took second in the 3,200-meters (11:47.91), along with the 4x800-meter relay (senior Jenna Hart, junior Kimmi Grove, senior Hannah Purtell; 9:57.44). The 4x400-meter team (Grove, senior Nicole Stauffer, junior Michelle Federico, Hart; 4:24.85) added second.
Sophomore Jamiya Richardson supplied third in the 55-meters (7.89). Richardson also collected another bronze medal in the 1,600-meter sprint medley relay (sophomore Elissa Aldrich, Federico, sophomore Natalie Wickenheisser; 4:44.75). Another third place came from senior Hannah Purtell (1,000-meters, 3:16).
Cheshire boys received first places from Liam Nicoll (300-meters, 36.91) and 4x800-meter relay (sophomore Mark Fusco, junior Ben Kaplan, senior Sagar Nakrani, junior Trey Phillips; 8:39.34). Senior Sam Brown was third in the 1,000-meters (2:51.36). Classmate Joe Nowak did the same in the high jump (five feet, six inches).
The SCC Championship is Feb. 1 (4 p.m.) in New Haven.

Cheshire defeated Fairfield Prep 40-37. Seniors Dan Massucci (138 pounds), Tim Homan (170), Josh Hunihan (160), juniors Jake Cervero (132), Lucas Swan (126), Gabe Vega (182), and sophomore Erik Ravenberg (106) rang up pins.
Saturday's Platt Duels start at 10 a.m.
Boys' Swim and Dive (5-4)
Cheshire fell 103-73 against Fairfield Prep (6-0), the eight-time defending Southern Connecticut Conference Champion. Freshman Kyle Shadeck claimed first for the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.13) and joined classmates Karl Bishop, Michael Goodrich, and Matt Pinciaro on the victorious 200-yard freestyle team (1:41.78). Junior Brian Johnson led the way in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing with another victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay (juniors Pat Morley, Jonathan Jin Qian, Alex Bauer; 3:59.58).
Cheshire visits Hamden on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Ice Hockey (1-10)
At Wesleyan University, the Rams were beaten 5-2 by Hamden (6-5-1). The Green Dragons tallied the first five goals. Sophomores Anthony Vitale and Frank Ilnicki registered their first goals. Seniors Tom Dupont and Tyler Lima, along with junior Chris Stevens and Greg Zovas, added assists. Cheshire took 17 shots compared to 37 for Hamden. Senior goalkeeper Scott Romano compiled 32 saves.
Cheshire returns on Saturday to play host Guilford (5-3-2) at the East Haven Veterans Memorial Ice Rink. Start time is 7:30 p.m.
