Board Approves $64.8 Million Budget, $350K More Than Originally Requested

January 23, 2013 by John Rook

In a surprising move Tuesday night, the Board of Education added $350,000 onto Superintendent of Schools Dr. Greg Florio's budget recommendation, officially forwarding the $64.8 million request on to the Town Manager.
Florio had recommended a $64.5 million operating budget for the 2013/2014 fiscal year, one that called for increases to several different accounts including maintenance and technology, which the superintendent claimed has been allowed to stagnate in terms of funding.
However, maintenance became the central focus of the review sessions of the Board and, on Tuesday night, several Board members suggested that more needed to be done to ensure that school facilities are made a priority.
Members voted unanimously for the amended budget.
