StayWell Health Center has received a new grant to expand its social service offerings. The health center currently offers HUSKY and Medicaid application assistance, VITA tax preparation aid, and several other social services. However, with the addition of $93,095 from the Department of Social Services, distributed by the Community Health Center Association of Connecticut, StayWell will be able to offer patients screenings for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). The grant funding has been earmarked to hire a SNAP outreach worker and to allow existing employees to assist in screenings for SNAP.
Since the funding was granted to the Community Health Center Association of Connecticut, there are several other health centers in the state that are receiving funds. StayWell will be providing SNAP screenings for residents of Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Cheshire, Derby, Meriden, Middlebury, Naugatuck, Oxford, Prospect, Southbury, Wallingford, Waterbury, and Wolcott. Fair Haven Community Health Center in New Haven will be providing SNAP screenings for residents of the remaining towns in New Haven County.
