At Wilbur Cross, Cheshire High School wrestling (5-9) beat host New Haven Co-Op 48-30. The Rams received pins from seniors Josh Hunihan (170 pounds) and Billy Janes (182), juniors Jake Cervero (132) and Lucas Swan (126), and sophomore Erik Ravenberg (106). Seniors Dan Massucci (138; 13-5), Dan Mayer (145; 11-5), Steve Bergeron (160; 10-2), and junior Joe Villano (113; forfeit) also won matches.
The Rams visit East Haven on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Girls' Basketball (6-4; 2-0 in Housatonic Division)
Sacred Heart Academy (7-4) swept the series 54-34 against visiting CHS. The loss ended Cheshire's three-game break. SHA scored 18 of the 21 points in the second quarter to take a 27-12 lead. Senior Lauren Como (14 points) sank four three-pointers.
Cheshire hosts Sheehan (4-4; 0-1) on Friday at 7 p.m.
Ice Hockey (0-8)
Cheshire dropped their sixth game by a single-goal 2-1 against undefeated Watertown-Pomperaug (6-0) in overtime. Watertown-Pomperaug senior Earl Harwell deposited the game-winner at In the third period, Watertown-Pomperaug took a 1-0 lead on a goal from senior Kevin Murphy. Cheshire tied the score with just 13 seconds remaining. Senior Tyler Lima converted a pass from sophomore Ben Klanica after CHS pulled senior goalkeeper Scott Romano (31 saves). Watertown-Pomperaug senior Trevor St. Onge had 41 saves.
The Rams return to Wesleyan University next Wednesday to host Tri-Town at 6 p.m.
