American Red Cross Gearing Up For National Blood Donor Month

December 30, 2012 by Special To The ...

January is National Blood Donor Month. The American Red Cross encourages all those who are eligible to donate blood to help patients in need at a community blood drive near you. Thousands of blood donations are needed each and every day to meet the needs of accident victims, cancer patients, and children with blood disorders. Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood.

Please call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit to make an appointment or for more information. Individuals who are 17 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

The American Red Cross noted that donors who give blood in January will receive a coupon for a free pound of Dunkin' Donuts coffee

In Cheshire, there is currently one drive scheduled for January. Temple Lodge #16, located at 9 Country Club Rd. is holding a drive on Jan. 4. The drive runs from 1 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.
