Cheshire High School girls' basketball (3-2; 1-0) won Thursday's Housatonic Division opener 38-33 at Shelton (1-4; 0-1). Senior Lauren Como had 14 points (three three-pointers), three rebounds. Junior Missy Bailey (two steals and rebounds, three assists) scored nine points. Seniors Emma Gorham (four points) and Molly Jalbert (three points, two steals) added six rebounds. Junior Lily Dolyak (five points, two assists) chipped in four points for 34-30 advantage. Sophomore Sara Como (two rebounds) supplied three points.
Cheshire plays Guilford on Dec. 28 (5 p.m.) in Berlin Holiday Tournament.
Boys' Basketball (2-2; 0-1)
Cheshire fell short 59-52 in their Housatonic opener at Amity (2-2; 1-0). Cheshire had a 20-12 advantage by the end of the first quarter and led 31-29 at halftime. Amity took the good for good during the final quarter. Junior Collin Jordan (22) and senior Eric Dietrich (13) were top point-scorers for CHS.
The Rams visit Southington next Thursday at 7 p.m.
