Boys' Swim And Dive Improves To 2-0 At North Haven

Cheshire High School freshman swimmer Kyle Shadeck claimed the 100-yard freestyle (55.31) and added to the victorious 200-yard medley relay (freshmen Matthew Pinciaro and Michael Goodrich and Alexander Cheruk; 1:54.85) in a 94-75 win over host North Haven (1-1) at Walter J. Gawrych Community Pool. Junior Pat Morley won the 500-yard freestyle (5:25.21) and earned another victory with his 200-yard freestyle squad (Pinciaro, freshman Karl Bishop, Cheruk; 1:44.51). Junior Alex Bauer touched first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.13). Freshman Sal DeLucia led diving (130.25) for the unbeaten Rams (2-0).
Wrestling (0-2)
Cheshire lost the home opener against Shelton 40-39 via tiebreaker. Seniors Billy Janes (195 pounds) and Andi Mino (160) joined juniors Joe Villano (113) and Gabe Vega (182) with pins. Senior Dan Massucci (138; 10-2), junior Jake Cervero (132; technical fall), and sophomore Erik Ravenberg (106; forfeit) added victories.
The Rams visit Farmington on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Ice Hockey (0-3)
Xavier (2-1) scored three goals in a row to beat visiting Cheshire 3-1 at Wesleyan University. Sophomore Ben Klanica scored the first goal (1-0) with 33 seconds gone by in the second period. Junior Luke Vendetto picked up the assist.
The Falcons got the go-ahead goal (2-1) from junior Bryan Stanton with 9 seconds remaining in the second. Classmates Sean Johnson and Jack Gethings added goals.
Senior goalkeeper Scott Romano made 36 saves (personal-best). Xavier senior Shane Baldwin had 12. Xavier led 39-13 in shots.
Cheshire visits West Haven (0-2) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Thursday's Housatonic Division basketball openers at 7 p.m.:
Girls (2-2)
The Lady Rams look to break a two-game slide at Shelton (1-3). CHS is the two-time defending champion.
Boys (2-1)
Cheshire travels to Amity (1-2). Last winter saw the Rams win their first divison title in 12 years.
