Cheshire High School boys' basketball defeated Xavier 71-66 in the home opener. Both teams are 2-1. Cheshire came back to lead 42-40 at halftime. Junior Collin Jordan paced the team with 18 points. Senior brothers Kevin Dietrich (14) and Eric Dietrich (12; four rebounds, three steals) had two three-pointers. Senior Erik Pettit made four outside shots for 12 points. Classmate Timothy Covel (five rebounds) supplied six points. Sophomore Andrew Yamin (career-high eight points) and junior Reid Duglenski (point) came up with three rebounds.
Cheshire visits Amity for Thursday's Housatonic Division opener at 7 p.m. CHS is the defending champion.

Girls' Basketball (2-2)
Unbeaten Mercy (5-0) defeated visiting Cheshire (2-2) 49-19. Sophomores Kya O'Donnell (seven) and Kelly Glatt (six) scored personal-best points.
The Lady Rams travel to Shelton for Thursday's Housatonic Division opener at 7 p.m. CHS is the two-time defending champion!

Cheshire visits North Haven to compete at Walter J. Gawyrch Community Pool at 4 p.m.
