CHS Girls Compete For Three State Crowns

Cheshire High School girls competed for three state titles on Saturday. Capsules are below:
Field Hockey (second seed; 20-3)
Cheshire lost an eight-game win streak in a 4-0 defeat against Darien (top; 21-1) in the Class L Final at Wethersfield. Senior goalkeeper had eight saves in goal. Classmates Lindsey Bonitz and Emily Hague added defensive saves.
Darien juniors Claire Culliton (two goals) and Hollis Perticone (goal, assist), senior Lexie Perticone (two assists), and freshman Georgia Cassidy (goal, assist) had points. Junior goalkeeper Danica Hornick posted two saves.
Bonitz (captain), Hague (captain), Miranda Garcia (captain), Maggie Kulpa (captain), Emily Dooley, Fountain, Sara Ilnicki, Megan Robles, and Miranda Scaramozza (manager) produced a record of 65-15-2-2 (35-4-0-1 in SCC; CHS record) in four years.

Girls’ Volleyball (second; 22-2)
Cheshire was swept 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-21) by Darien (top; 24-0) in the Class LL Final at East Haven. Seniors Amanda Palladino (10 kills, two blocks) and Lisa Walle, along with sophomore Sarah Rodgers (17 assists), supplied three digs.
Meredith Bryden (captain), Palladino (captain), Sarah Crooker, Brittney Gunneson, and Walle are graduating seniors.

Girls’ Swimming (seventh; 199 points)
Cheshire swam in the State Open at Yale University. Senior Taylor Deubel (200-yard individual medley, 17th, 2:14.65) finished sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.71) and 200-yard medley relay (sophomores Sara Barlok and Lindsay Smalec, senior Jenna Cannata; 1:51.26). Smalec added eighth for the 200-yard IM (2:11.81) and 100-yard butterfly (59.47). Seniors Tiffany Wang and Maegan McGee, along with junior Dense Costello and Smalec, swam the 200-yard freestyle relay (14th, 3:43.29).
Barlok shared 10th (1:00.04) in the 100-yard backstroke. The 200-yard freestyle team of Barlok, Cannata, Wang, and sophomore Ellie Senft came in 12th place (1:41.68).
Senior Jenna Cannata (100-yard freestyle, 55.1; 50-yard freestyle, tied for 20th, 25.22) and freshman Lauren Pasinski (100-yard breaststroke, 1:11.57) took 22nd overall. Junior Laura Mongillo (17th, 1:01.1) and senior Molly Condron (24th, 1:02.83) followed Barlok in backstroke.
Cannata (captain), Condron (captain), Wang (captain), Deubel, McKenzie Keddy, McGee, CJ Quental, and Maggie Senft have closed their swim careers at CHS.
