Cheshire High School girls' volleyball (second seed; 21-1) came back to win their eighth straight 3-1 (18-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-16) against Staples (10th; 15-5) in Class LL quarterfinal! It was the last home match for seniors Meredith Bryden (captain), Amanda Palladino (captain; 21 kills, six blocks), Sarah Crooker, Brittney Gunneson, and Lisa Løftingsmo Walle (nine kills; six digs and aces)! Walle served out a 12-0 finish to the match! Sophomore Sarah Rodgers had 39 assists. Classmate Jillian Haberli supplied 10 kills (personal-best) and two digs. CHS makes their third semifinal appearance in a row on Thursday at Joseph Foran in Milford. They face Fairfield Ludlowe (third; 19-1) at 5 p.m. Darien (top; 20-0) and Southington (12th; 17-4) play second at 7 p.m.

Cheshire carries a seven-game win streak into their Class L semifinal against Simsbury (third; 15-2-0-1) at Wethersfield. Start time is 6 p.m.
Darien (top; 17-1) and New Milford (fourth; 14-2-2) meet in Wednesday's other semifinal at Weston. That start time is also 6 p.m.
Cheshire beat Norwalk 1-0 at Wethersfield for the school’s ninth state title last year.
CHS visits Wesleyan University for the Class LL Final at 7 p.m. Warm-up is 6-6:55 p.m.
