CHS Field Hockey Comes Back To Beat South Windsor In L Quarters

Cheshire High School field hockey (second seed; 19-2) came back to win their seventh straight 2-1 against South Windsor (seventh; 13-4) in the Class L quarterfinal at Alumni Field. Down 1-0 at halftime, junior Emma Farrel added two goals. Junior Michelle Federico collected the assist on the game-winner. Senior goalkeeper Lauren Fountain made four saves.
CHS, the defending champion, faces Simsbury (third; 15-2-0-1) in Wednesday's semifinal at Wethersfield. Start time is 6 p.m. Simsbury beat Glastonbury (sixth; 13-3-1-1) 2-0.
Darien (top; 17-1) and New Milford (fourth; 14-2-2) play in the other semifinal, starting 6 p.m. at Weston.
Sophomore Erin Mostoller was ninth (297.4) in Class L action at Middletown. Swim Final is Wednesday, starting 7 p.m., at Wesleyan University.
Girls’ Volleyball (second; 20-1)
CHS carries a seven-match win streak into Tuesday's Class LL quarterfinal against Staples (10th; 15-4) at 7 p.m. This is the last home match for seniors Meredith Bryden (captain), Amanda Palladino (captain), Sarah Crooker, Brittany Gunneson, and Lisa Walle.
The Lady Rams beat Westhill (15th; 12-9) 3-0 (27-25, 25-20, 25-11) in Saturday's Second Round. Staples also swept at Trumbull (seventh; 14-5). Scores: 25-14, 25-20, 28-26.
