Due to inclement weather and the approaching Class LL Tournament, tonight's SCC Final for girls' volleyball at North Haven has been canceled. CHS (top seed; 19-1) and Amity (third; 16-4) are co-champions. Cheshire has nine titles (SCC record) and Amity is second (five). The rivals also shared the Housatonic Division title at 7-1. CHS won the first meeting 3-1 on Sept. 28. Amity is the only team to beat the Lady Rams, winning 3-2 on Oct. 15.
Cheshire has the second seed for the Class LL Tournament. After a first-round bye, they look for their seventh straight win in Saturday's Second Round at 7 p.m. Cheshire meets the winner of tomorrow's match between host Westhill (15th; 11-7) and Danbury (18th; 9-9) at 7 p.m. CHS has reached the semifinals in the last two seasons.
Field Hockey (second; 17-2)
CHS carries a five-game shutout streak into Saturday's Class L First Round at Alumni Field. Start time is 11 a.m. Cheshire will meet the winner of Friday's qualifier between host William Hall (15th; 8-6-2) and Newtown (6-9-0-1) at 2 p.m.
CHS, the defending champion, beat Norwalk 1-0 for their first Class L title in a decade.
Girls' Soccer (seventh; 12-3-2)
The Lady Rams host New Milford (26th; 6-8-2) in Friday's Class LL First Round at 2 p.m. Cheshire made it to the quarterfinals last year, falling 3-1 at Newtown.
Boys' Soccer (24th; 7-5-4)
Cheshire visits Newtown (ninth; 11-2-3) in Friday's Class LL First Round at 2 p.m. Cheshire has been to the quarterfinals in the last two years, falling to William Hall (overtime; 2010) and Guilford (2011) by scores of 2-1.
