CHS Field Hockey Shut Outs Sacred Heart, Girls' Soccer Comes Up Short

Cheshire High School field hockey (top seed; 15-2) defeated Sacred Heart Academy (eighth; 3-12-1-1) 5-0 again in Southern Connecticut Conference quarterfinals at Alumni Field. They led 3-0 at halftime. Junior Emma Farrel had two goals. Senior Miranda Garcia, along with juniors Olivia Larson (assist) and Kathleen Lima (assist), added goals. Junior Michelle Federico supplied two assists.
Senior Lauren Fountain and junior Maddy Levy got the shutout.
The Lady Rams host Branford (fourth; 10-3-3-1) in Monday's semifinals at 5 p.m. Branford defeated Hamden (fifth; 11-5-1) 2-1 in their quarterfinal. Cheshire knocked off Branford on Sept. 14 (3-1) and Oct. 22 (2-0).
Daniel Hand (second; 12-4-1) and Guilford (third; 9-5-3) meet in the second semifinal at 7 p.m. Hand was a 5-0 winner over Mercy (seventh; 6-9-1) and Guilford shut out Amity (sixth; 4-8-4) 7-0.
Tuesday's Final is 6 p.m. at CHS. Cheshire beat host Guilford 2-1 (overtime) for their first tournament title last year!
Girls’ Soccer (second; 12-3-2)
Cheshire lost 2-1 against Daniel Hand (seventh; 11-6) in a quarterfinal. Senior Kendra Lena had both goals for the Tigers. Her game-winner came 12 minutes and 24 seconds into the second half. Senior Kelsie Carlette put in the tying goal (1-1). All the scoring came in the second half. Sophomore Carolyn Giusti added two saves.
Hand visits Branford (sixth; 11-5-1) for Monday’s semifinal at 6 p.m. Cheshire awaits seeding for the Class LL Tournament.
Cross Country
Girls' cross country runs in Sunday's State Open at Wickham Park in Manchester. Start time is 2 p.m. Senior Sagar Nakrani and junior Lucas Marcouiller will compete individually in the boys' race starting 2:45 p.m.
