Lady Rams Turn Back Hand, Boys' X-C Finishes Second

Cheshire High School field hockey (11-1; 7-0 in Southern Connecticut Conference) won 1-0 at Daniel Hand (8-4; 5-1) to take the series. Senior Miranda Garcia tallied lone goal with 26:24 remaining. Junior Kathleen Lima assisted her following a scoreless first half. In her eighth shutout, senior goalkeeper Lauren Fountain garnered 12 saves. Hand sophomore Melanie Rennie had five saves. Hand took 15 shots to Cheshire's 10.
The Lady Rams visit North Haven (4-6) on Tuesday at 3:45 p.m.
Boys' Cross Country
CHS varsity compiled 43 points during the Nonnewaug High School Invite, placing a tight second to Pomperaug (42). Junior Luke Marcouiller (fifth, 16:21), senior Sagar Nakrani (seventh, 16:24), senior Sam Brown (ninth, 16:37), sophomores Mark Fusco (10th, 16:44) and Russell Adam (12th, 16:46) scored.
The Junior Varsity team earned first with 17 points. Seniors Brendan Donovan (17:24), Nick Jackowenko (17:46), and senior Dante Anastasio (17:47) topped the race.
The boys' and girls' teams compete in Thursday's Southern Connecticut Conference Championship at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison. Races start at 1 p.m.
