October 11, 2012 by Ellen Jarus Hanley

Betty Lou Voos died peacefully on August 23, 2012 at the age 88 in Orchard Park, N.Y.

Born in Perry, N.Y. to Ken and Elsie Davis, Betty moved to Cheshire, Conn., where she lived for many years and raised her family. She also lived in Madeira Beach, Fla. and Geneseo, N.Y. Betty was preceded into rest by her beloved husband, Frederick W. Voos, Jr. in 1981. Along with making a home and raising a family, Betty was at various times a secretary, teacher, antique dealer, real estate agent, and boatyard owner. She and her husband owned and operated Homestead Antiques in Cheshire and Snug Harbor Marine Ways in Madeira Beach. Betty was an avid skier, published poet, tenacious card and Scrabble player and often-consulted authority on colonial American and other antique glassware.

She is survived by her children, Frederick W. (Barbara) Voos, III of Bremerton, Wash., Sharon Babington of Amityville, N.Y., and Alan D. Voos of East Aurora, N.Y.; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at the First Congregational Church of Cheshire at 10 a.m. on October 20, after which Betty will be laid to rest beside her late husband in Cheshire Hillside Cemetery. Anyone wishing to do so may make a donation in Betty’s name to Teresa House in Geneseo, N.Y.
