Doolittle PTA About To Open Legacy Walkway

September 26, 2012 by Special To The ...

The Doolittle PTA invites you to a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the “Leave a Legacy” courtyard walkway. Please join us on Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. as they thank everyone who purchased engraved bricks and donated time or funds to make the brick walkway a reality.
In 2009, the courtyard garden, christened the Doolittle Outdoor Adventure Garden by students, became a certified Monarch Waystation thanks to the diligent work of both PTA members and students. This beautiful butterfly habitat also functions as an enhanced learning environment for students, inspiring science experiments, creative writing, and a lasting connection to nature. The courtyard is home to a turtle, frogs, and a fish-filled pond as well.
This spring the PTA invited community members to commemorate their children’s experience at Doolittle by purchasing engraved bricks. Thanks to the generous response of the community, as well we funds from the PTA and budgeting assistance from Buildings and Grounds, the PTA was able to hire Mingrino’s Landscaping to replace a difficult-to-maintain gravel path with a new brick walkway. Their heartiest thanks go out to Mingrino’s as well as to Sharon Weirsman, Doolittle Elementary Principal; Vinnie Sita, Cheshire Public Schools Grounds Maintenance Foreman; and Will Padua and Mike Bouton at Doolittle.
