CHS Varsity Teams Sweep On Monday

CHS went undefeated in Monday's varsity action:
Field Hockey (5-0)
Cheshire defeated Farmington (4-1) 4-1 for their 26th straight win at Cheshire Alumni Field. The Lady Rams took a 3-0 lead at intermission. Junior Emma Farrel had the first two goals. Classmtes Michelle Federico and Kathleen Lima added a goal and an assist.
Senior Miranda Garcia, junior Olivia Larson, and sophomore Mikayla Crieger supplied assists. For Crieger, it was the first of her varsity time. Senior Lauren Fountain came away with a save in consecutive games.

Cross Country (4-0; 1-0 in Housatonic Division)
Cheshire swept host Daniel Hand at the Surf Club in Madison. The girls won 24-35 and boys were victorious 25-30.
Seniors Sagar Nakrani (second, 16:43) and Sam Brown (third, 16:47), junior Lucas Marcouiller (fourth, 16:50), senior Brendan Donovan (sixth, 17:02), and junior Ben Kaplan (10th, 17:22) scored for the boys' team.
For the second girls' race in a row, senior Kathleen Kalbian took first place (19:38). Sophomores Natalie Wickenheisser (fourth, 20:40) and Elizabeth Cunningham (third, 20:42), junior Kimmi Grove (sixth, 20:44), sophomores Kendra Brown (eighth, 21:18) and Sharon Bian (ninth, 21:22), and senior Julie Trifone (10th, 21:25) finished in the top 10.
Girls' Swim And Dive (4-0)
Cheshire defeated host Shelton (0-4) 93-69 at the Shelton Community Center Pool. Sophomore Sara Barlok was victorious in the 500-yard freestyle (5:40.92) and 200-yard freestyle relay (seniors Tiffany Wang and Maegan McGee and Jenna Cannata; 1:48.55), sharing first place with McGee through the 100-yard freestyle (58.78). Cheshire opened by winning the 200-yard medley relay (junior Laura Mongillo, senior Taylor Deubel, sophomore Delaney Molnar, senior Jenna Cannata; 2:03.06). Deubel (100-yard breaststroke, 1:11.9), Mongillo (50-yard freestyle, 27.63), and Molnar (100-yard butterfly, 1:06.99) also joined juniors Denise Costello (200-yard freestyle, 2:08.1) and Brooke Phillips (100-yard backstroke, 1:12.5) as individual winners.
The home opener against West Haven is Oct. 5 at 7 p.m.
Girls' Volleyball (6-0; 2-0)
Cheshire held on to earn a 3-2 win (25-18, 25-21, 20-25, 18-25, 15-13) at Lyman Hall. Seniors Amanda Palladino (14 kills, five blocks) and Brittney Gunneson (five kills, three blocks), along with sophomores Maria Buzzelli (11 digs) and Sarah Rodgers (24 assists), contributed to the win.
