CHS Girls Sweep In Friday Varsity Action

The following Cheshire High School girls' teams came away victorious yesterday:
Soccer (3-1; 1-0 in Housatonic Division)
In the second half at Amity (2-1-1; 0-1), Senior Nicole Stauffer had a goal and assisted classmate Jenna Hart for a 2-0 victory in the Housatonic Division opener. Junior goalkeeper Natalie Reynolds made six saves.

Swim and Dive (3-0)
Cheshire won 99-79 against host North Haven (1-3) at the Walter J. Gawrych Community Pool. Sophomore Lindsay Smalec claimed first place in the 200-yard individual medley (2:20.6) and 100-yard freestyle (58.62), along with the 200-yard medley relay (junior Laura Mongillo, seniors Taylor Deubel and Jenna Cannata; 1:59.73). Deubel (100-yard breaststroke, 1:12.49), junior Denise Costello (200-yard freestyle, 2:07.07), Mongillo (100-yard backstroke, 1:05.32), sophomores Sara Barlok (50-yard freestyle, 25.97) and Taylor Plumley (500-yard freestyle, 5:33.13) added individual wins. Cheshire also won the 200-yard freestyle relay (seniors Maegan McGee and Tiffany Wang, Costello, Cannata) in 1:47.61.
On Monday, Cheshire faces host Gaelettes at the Shelton Community Center Pool. Start time is 4 p.m.
Field Hockey (4-0)
In their first home night contest at Cheshire Alumni Field, Cheshire collected their 25th victory in a row 4-0 against Mercy (2-1). Sophomore Mikayla Crieger deposited her first two varsity goals. Junior Olivia Larsn and Erica Stauffer (first assist) did the same. Junior Michelle Federico chipped in two assists.
Cheshire had 22 shots to Mercy's one. Senior goalkeeper Lauren Fountain (save) took the shutout.
Cheshire hosts unbeaten Farmington (4-0) on Monday at 3:45 p.m.
Volleyball (5-0; 1-0)
CHS beat visiting Sheehan 3-0 in the Housatonic opener. Game scores were 25-14, 26-24, 25-16. Senior Lisa Walle (12 kills; five digs and aces), junior Rebecca Ligi (10 kills; four digs), and sophomore Sarah Rodgers (32 assists) had career-high numbers. Senior Amanda Palladino hit 13 kills and collected five blocks.
The Lady Rams visit Lyman Hall on Monday at 7 p.m.
Boys' soccer (1-1-1) hosts their Housatonic opener against Sheehan tonight at 6 p.m. It is their first home night game at Cheshire Alumni Field.
