Four Cheshire High School varsity teams improved to 2-0 yesterday:
Field Hockey (2-0)
Junior Michelle Federico had two goals in a 3-1 win against Branford (1-1), the first victory on Cheshire Alumni Field. Classmates Emma Farrel (goal), Olivia Larson, and Kathleen Lima had assists. The point was the first for Larson.
Senior goalkeeper Lauren Fountain had three saves. Classmate Lindsey Bonitz had one.
The Lady Rams host Daniel Hand on Tuesday at 3:45 p.m.

Girls' Soccer (2-0)
Cheshire beat Daniel Hand 4-1. For the second game, sophomore Alexandra Pelletier chipped in two goals. Senior Claudia Martinez and junior Leah Chamberlin added goals. Chamberlin had never scored on varsity before. Junior Nicole Stauffer assisted twice. Senior Kelsie Carlette and sophomore Victoria Schoenwald (first point) recorded assists. Junior goalkeeper Natalie Reynolds made five saves.
CHS hosts Hamden on Tuesday at 3:45 p.m.

Girls' Volleyball (2-0)
Cheshire mounted a comeback to beat Branford 3-2 (19-25, 24-26, 25-19, 25-10, 15-13). Senior Amanda Palladino (personal-best 10 blocks) had 11 kills. The following girls had career-highs: seniors Brittany Gunneson (10 kills, eight service aces) and Lisa Walle (eight kills, four blocks, five aces; adding three digs), sophomores Sarah Rodgers (24 assists, three blocks) and Maria Buzzelli (16 digs, two assists).
Cheshire visits Jonathan Law on Tuesday at 5:15 p.m.
Girls' Swim and Dive (2-0)
Cheshire was victorious 104-79 at Hamden (0-2). Senior Maegan McGee (50-yard freestyle, 26.8), junior Laura Mongilo (200-yard individual medley, 2:24.17), along with sophomores Sara Barlok (100-yard backstroke, 1:02.76) and Lindsay Smalec (100-yard butterfly, 1:03.46) won events alone.
Barlok, senior Taylor Deubel, sophomore Delaney Molnar, and Jenna Cannata swam on the victorious 200-yard medley relay (2:01.1). McGee, senior Tiffany Wang, junior Denise Costello, and Cannata combined to take first place in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:47.82).
The home opener against North Haven is Friday at Cheshire Community Pool. Start time is 7 p.m.
Boys' Soccer (1-0-1)
At Bittner Park, Cheshire tied host Guilford 0-0. Sophomore Matt Skydel had three saves.
The Rams visit Xavier on Tuesday at 3:45 p.m.
Saturday's Haddad-Windham High School Invite opens the season at 9 a.m.
