Cheshire High School started fall sports yesterday. Recaps are below:
Cheshire defeated host Guilford 2-0, recording the program’s 22nd victory in a row. Junior Emma Farrel assisted classmate Michelle Federico and added a goal in the first half. Senior goalkeeper Lauren Fountain (seven saves) earned the first shutout of her career.
The Lady Rams play their first game at Cheshire Alumni Field on Friday at 3:30 p.m. Branford is the opponent.
Cheshire won 2-0 at Guilford’s Bittner Park, the same place they won last year’s opener. Sophomore Alexandra Pelletier had a personal-best two goals and senior Kelsie Carlette added one. Junior Lily Dolyak earned her first assist and junior goalkeeper Natalie Reynolds provided six saves. Cheshire led 3-0 before Guilford scored in the second half.
Cheshire’s home opener is Friday against Daniel Hand at 4 p.m.
Senior Matt Mueller posted a career-high three goals and an assist during a 4-2 win over North Haven. Classmate Nick Berardi assisted him twice and had the other goal. In his first start, sophomore goalkeeper Matt Skydel had three saves.
Cheshire visits Guilford on Friday at Bittner Park. Start time is 3:45 p.m.

Girls’ Swim and Dive
In the debut of Head Coach Dan Mascolo, Cheshire defeated host Lyman Hall 102-79 victory at Sheehan. Seniors Jenna Cannata (100-yard freestyle, 58.08) and Taylor Deubel (100-yard breaststroke, 1:14.08), along with sophomores Lindsay Smalec (100-yard butterfly, 1:05.31) and Erin Mostoller (one-meter dive, 160.25), were individual winners.
Smalec and classmate Sara Barlok teamed on the victorious 200-yard medley (Deubel, Cannata; 1:58.06) and 400-yard freestyle (Barlok, juniors Denise Costello and Laura Mongillo; 3:57.47) relays. Costello, senior Maegan McGee, Lauren Pasinski, and senior Tiffany Wang added first place on the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:48.77).
Cheshire travels Hamden on Friday at 4 p.m.
Girls’ volleyball visits Joseph Foran in tonight’s opener at 5:15 p.m.
