Esty Wins Democratic Nomination For Fifth District

August 15, 2012 by John Rook

Cheshire resident Elizabeth Esty is getting a crack at going to Washington, D.C.
Esty, a Democrat who served for years on the Cheshire Town Council and one term in the Connecticut House of Representatives, secured her party's nomination on Tuesday night, beating House Speaker Chris Donovan.
Esty will take on Republican nominee State Senator Andrew Roraback, who also won his party's nomination at primary.
The Fifth District seat is being vacated by U.S. Congressman Chris Murphy (D-5), a Cheshire resident who is seeking to be elected to the U.S. Senate. Murphy also received the nod from Democratic Party voters on Tuesday, and will challenge Republican Linda McMahon for the seat.
