The Democratic and Republican parties will be holding their primaries today to decide who will be the nominee for several state and federal races. In perhaps the most heated of all the races, Cheshire resident and Democrat Elizabeth Esty will be looking to out duel long-time state politician Chris Donovan. Donovan has been under fire over the last several weeks after several high-ranking members of his campaign were arrested for allegedly taking illegal contributions in exchange for promises that Donovan would oppose certain legislation in the Connecticut legislature. Esty, who served for one term in the Connecticut State House and was a long-time member of the Cheshire Town Council, is seeking her first federal office.
