Preview Of This Week's Cheshire Herald

August 2, 2012 by John Rook

Have you gotten your copy of The Cheshire Herald yet? If not, here's what you're missing:

*The Cheshire High School boys' locker room has been at the heart of a heated debate around town, especially after the Cheshire Town Council postponed the vote back in the spring on a plan to refurbish the existing space. Now, the subcommittee of the Public Building Commission is proposing that original proposal be scrapped and a new, more costly project implemented. Read what the PBC is proposing and when the project could begin.

*For decades, the Town of Cheshire has been a part of the Chesprocott Health District. However, after the Town was asked to fork over nearly $30,000 earlier this year to help the facility stay solvent, some officials are asking whether their might be better options available. Find out what other options Town officials are exploring.

*A hurricane slammed into Cheshire on Monday, leaving a wake of devastation in its path. Luckily, this particular hurricane was simply a figment of the State of Connecticut's imagination, designed to better prepare communities like Cheshire to handle a natural disaster. Learn how the Town did.

*Check out our editorial this week where we discuss how, while the proposal set forth by the PBC might seem somewhat excessive when it comes to new locker rooms at CHS, it is what the Council asked for and would seem to solve a decades-long problem.

*As always, our Around Town and Sports sections has all your local news and happenings, and don't forget to read our latest installment of our summer series of articles entitled "The Artists Among Us."
