A prison guard at the Cheshire Correctional Institution was arrested on Tuesday after he was caught purchasing drugs in Southington that authorities believe he intended to smuggle into the prison.
On July 17, Arcolain Fountain, 46, of East Haven, was arrested in a commuter lot in Southington after State Police detectives witnessed a hand-to-hand narcotics transaction. The investigation into Fountain began in March based on information that Fountain might “attempt to convey illegal narcotics into the Cheshire Correctional Institution” a press release from Lt. J. Paul Vance states.
“The State Police Tactical Team moved in and arrested Fountain without incident,” Vance states in the release.
Fountain was charged with criminal attempt to convey unauthorized items into a correctional facility, criminal attempt to possess narcotics, and criminal attempt to possess a hallucinogenic. He was held on $100,000 bond. Narcotics evidence and a motorcycle was seized on scene, according to police.
“State Police Narcotics Detectives and Department of Correction personnel utilized a variety of investigative techniques and developed leads in this extensive investigation,” Vance said in a press release.
