The following press release was received from Kol Ami of Cheshire:
Congregation Kol Ami is excited and proud to announce that Rabbi Joshua Ratner will join the Kol Ami community as our rabbi effective August 1.
Rabbi Ratner comes to Kol Ami with a wealth of experience. He was ordained by the Jewish Theological Seminary in May 2012, where he was a Joseph Neubauer Fellow. Rabbi Ratner earned a Master's Degree in Midrash and a Certificate in Pastoral Care. During his time at JTS, Rabbi Ratner served as a rabbinic intern at the Jewish Community Center of Harrison, N.Y. He was a public policy fellow for the Rabbinical Assembly and was a Rabbinic Fellow for the Jewish Council for Public Affairs. He also received training in congregation-based community organizing.
Rabbi Ratner was raised in San Diego, Calif., and was inspired by both his time in a Conservative Hebrew Day School and Camp Ramah. Before his commitment to leading our congregation, Rabbi Ratner graduated from Columbia University with double degrees in comparative religion and international politics. Rabbi Ratner then studied at the Pardes Institute in Jerusalem, and attended Columbia Law School. He practiced law for five years before starting his current journey to become a rabbi.
Rabbi Ratner is happily married to Dr. Elena Ratner, who is a leading gynecologic oncologist at Yale-New Haven Hospital. They are the proud parents of Dimitri (age 9), Eli (age 6), and Gabriella (age 2). Rabbi Ratner and his family have settled in Woodbridge to be close and accessible to the Cheshire Community.
Rabbi Ratner is passionate about environmental advocacy. This means he is committed to creating changes that will favorably improve our world with lasting effect. He marries this activism with a desire to imbue our future generations with a strong foundation in and a deep connection to Judaism. It is an exciting voyage we hope you will participate in.
Please join us for services with Rabbi Josh Friday nights at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday mornings, with Torah Study at 9 a.m. followed by services at 10 a.m. New members are encouraged to inquire about our special “Welcome Rabbi Josh” membership incentives for 2012.
