An elderly Cheshire man died yesterday evening while mowing his lawn.
At around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday June 21, police were notified that Richard Johnson, 82, of North Brooksvale Rd., was dead. He was found by a family member. According to Cheshire Police spokesman Lt. James Fasano, Johnson was riding his lawn mower and “suffered a medical event.” He said it was unclear if the heat played a factor in his death.
“This is not suspicious, it’s just an untimely death,” Fasano said Friday morning.
Connecticut has experienced temperatures climbing well into the 90s Wednesday and Thursday, prompting many officials to urge residents to stay indoors as much as possible and keep air conditioning units going. While the cause of Johnson's death remains unknown, the heat has caused problems throughout the Northeast, and is responsible for 15 people being taken to the hospital during New Britian's recent graduation ceremony.
