On Senior Night, Cheshire High School boys' lacrosse improved to 7-5 with a 15-8 victory against Notre Dame-West Haven (7-7). Cheshire, sparked by senior Kevin Adams (five goals, four assists), out-scored the Green Knights 9-1 in the first half. Classmate Tyler Violano had a goal and three assists. Junior Chris Trasacco added two goals and two assists. Sophomore Matt Samuelson and freshman Matt Blois supplied two goals. Seniors Spencer Hackett Dylan Baumgardner and junior Tom Dupont contributed goals. Classmate Tyler Carbone chipped in an assist.
Senior goalkeepers Will Devine (14 saves) and Marco Iovanna (two saves) both played in net.
Adams (captain), Devine (captain), Kevin Pasquale, and Jimmy Arisco, Baumgardner, Carbone, Hackett, Iovanna, Sebastian Little, Sean Murphy, Nick Palladino, Connor Rand, Evan Shalagan, Nick Velleca, and Violano were called out in a pre-game ceremony.
Cheshire visits Conard (9-3) on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Boys' Tennis (14-1)
CHS swept Guilford (9-3) for their 13th win in a row. Seniors Brad Mahar and Usama Choudhry (6-3, 6-1) and senior Jeff Lee and sophomore Nick Anthony (6-0, 6-1) were victorious as doubles teams. Junior Bryan Adams (6-0, 6-4), sophomore Jeremy Reichentahl (6-4, 6-2), seniors Drew Henderson (6-0, 6-0) and Tanner Barros (6-0, 6-4), and junior Andrew Carroll (6-4, 6-1) added wins individually.
Cheshire visits Daniel Hand (11-2) today at 3:45 p.m. Hand is the only team to beat CHS 4-3 on April 5.
Girls' Tennis (3-6)
Cheshire earned a 5-2 win against Branford (5-9). Seniors Erica Larson (6-0, 6-3), and Katie Seggerman (6-2, 6-3) added a point each in singles. CHS received a doubles sweep from senior Alex Hirt and junior Anna Toscano (3-6, 6-4, 6-0), junior Maegan McGee and senior Theresa Fitzpatrick (6-3, 6-0), and juniors Lindsey Garibaldi and Meredith Bryden (6-0, 6-2).
The Lady Rams host Daniel Hand (13-1) today at 3:45 p.m. Hand swept them on April 5.
Boys' Volleyball (12-0)
Cheshire earned their 34th straight win 3-1 against Joel Barlow (7-5), beating them for the second time. Game scores were 25-16, 25-18, 22-25, 25-23. Ryan Cuppernull (15 kills, seven service aces, six digs, three blocks), Ray Brumleve (44 assists), Nate Howard (16 kills, six blocks), and Matt Ward (eight blocks, four kills) contributed from the senior class. Junior Evan Colechia added 12 kills.
The Rams visit Daniel Hand (4-9) tonight at 5:30 p.m. Cheshire defeated them 3-1 on April 20.
Baseball (3-12; 1-6 in Housatonic Division)
CHS avenged a 1-0 loss on April 24, defeating Lyman Hall (5-10; 1-6) 7-3 for their first divisional win. Junior Vin Sansone struck out five while allowing four hits and two walks. He improved to 2-2. Classmate PJ Watson entered in the seventh, allowing a hit. Watson fired two strikeouts.
Cheshire scored four times during the sixth, highlighted by a bases-loaded triple fom sophomore Dan Schock (two hits and runs scored apiece). Junior Matt Gardiner also scored twice, reaching on three singlessingled three times. Classmate Kyle Waldron (two singles) had an RBI.
Cheshire visits Amity (11-4; 6-1) today at 3:45 p.m. Amity won 3-0 on April 25 in nine innings.
Girls' Golf (6-4)
At the Southington Country Club, the Lady Rams fell 185-201 to Avon. Andra Frappier led the way at 45, one stroke behind Avon medalist Alexa Gentile. Juniors Maggie Kulpa and Emily Larkin shared 50. Junior Meg Robles shot 56 and freshman Dana Zappone contributed 60.
CHS hosts Daniel Hand and Bunnell on Monday at 3 p.m.
Boys' Golf (8-3; 5-3 in Housatonic Division)
Cheshire beat host Fairfield Prep 161-166 at Patterson Club in Fairfield. Junior Medalist Eric Dietrich contributed a 36. Four strokes behind were sophomores Tom Arisco and Jake Ecke. Junior Mike Stanton shot 45.
Cheshire faces host Daniel Hand on Monday at the Madison Country Club. Start time is 2:30 p.m.
