Cheshire High School boys’ tennis (12-1) won their 11th straight match 7-0 over Notre Dame-West Haven (7-5) yesterday. It was the 300th match for Head Coach Jim Matthews and his 250th victory. Junior Bryan Adams (6-0, 6-0), sophomore Jeremy Reichentahl (6-0, 6-0), seniors Drew Henderson (6-3, 7-6 (7-4), Tanner Barros (7-6 (7-2), 6-1), and Jeff Lee (6-2, 6-0) claimed singles. Senior Brad Mahar and junior Casey Barry earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at number one doubles.
Senior Usama Choudhry and sophomore Nick Anthony also prevailed in three sets (6-4, 4-6, 6-3). ND-WH senior Connor Andersen, who played at second doubles, is a resident of Cheshire. Read about this match in next week's issue of The Cheshire Herald!
The Rams host Hamden (7-5) on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
Boys’ Volleyball (10-0)
Cheshire earned their 32nd straight win 3-0 at Shelton (1-11). Game scores were 25-5, 25-8, 25-22. Senior Ryan Cuppernull supplied 18 assists and posted six kills. Junior Evan Colechia hit seven kills. Senior Nate Howard had five kills and three service aces, while classmate Matt Ward recorded four blocks.
Cheshire visits Amity (7-5) on Monday at 5 p.m. CHS swept them on April 13.
Girls' Tennis (2-6)
The Lady Rams were swept at defending Southern Connecticut Conference Champion Amity, who won the series.
Cheshire visits Shelton (6-4) on Tuesday at 3:45 p.m.
Softball (8-6; 3-3 in Housatonic Division)
Sheehan (10-3; 4-1) earned a sweep 3-1 at Cheshire. The Titans plated all their runs in the third inning. In the bottom half, junior Nicole D’Amato connected for her first home run of the season. D’Amato also singled in the fifth. She pitched a complete game, yielding six hits and three walks. D’Amato fired four strikeouts.
The Lady Rams host Shelton (7-6; 2-3) on Monday at 4 p.m. CHS won 7-2 on April 20.
Baseball (2-12; 0-6)
Cheshire dropped their 10th consecutive game 5-3 when Sheehan senior Brian Murphy drove a walk-off three-run home run in Wallingford. Senior pitcher Jordan Kubilus (1-6) gave up seven hits and four walks.
CHS led Sheehan (7-7; 3-3) 3-2 headed into the bottom of the seventh. They scored their first run in the third and added two during the sixth. Sophomore Dan Schock doubled in senior Connor Clark. Senior Vic Lyall hit a two-run single to score sophomores Ethan Lonardelli (single) and Kyle Waldron (double). Senior Adam Rider added two singles.
CHS visits North Haven (7-6) on Monday at 7 p.m. North Haven won 4-3 on April 20 in eight innings.
