Chester, VT – Charles E. Crowley, Jr. 80, died on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at Gaylord Hospital.
Born in New Rochelle, N.Y. on April 9, 1932, the son of the late Charles E. and Aida (Perrit) Crowley, he grew up in Southington and prepared at Cheshire Academy, received his B.A. from Yale University and his M.B.A. from the University of New Haven. He also attended the University of London, Harvard Law School, and Judge Advocate General School. Prior to his illness, he resided in Chester, Vt.
Charlie was President of Hemingway-Lewis Insurance Agency of Southington and Cheshire, and a past member of Rotary, the CT Yankee Council of Boy Scouts, the Cheshire Academy Board of Trustees, and President of both the CT and National Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) Association. He was also a consultant and expert witness for the insurance industry. He was honored twice as “Professional Agent of the Year” by the National Association of Insurance Agents.
He was an avid reader, a history and Civil War buff. He loved animals, especially German Shepherds. He enjoyed the tranquility and beauty of Vermont, especially the Weston Priory.
He is survived by his two daughters, Tracy A. Crowley and Tara A. Knapp (William); his grandson, Christopher M. Knapp; as well as his first wife, Jane Daly Crowley. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Arthur S. Crowley; and his second wife, Patricia E. Peet.
